The Gandhara style of art — a unique blend of Greco-Roman and Indian artistic traditions — flourished in the region of Gandhara (present-day northwestern Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan) from the 1st century BCE to the 7th century CE.
This head of the Buddha draws on that rich lineage: serene, classical, deeply humanist. A form born of the Indian subcontinent's most cosmopolitan artistic moment — where the ancient East and West met, and created something entirely new.

Original reference — Gandhara · 1st–7th c. CE
